Intervention and Support

Does your child need some additional support?

My role as Learning Improvement Leader is to work with teachers to support student individual needs. Individual learning plans are established in consultation with families, student, the classroom teachers and the Learning Improvement leader. The teachers adjust the curriculum, environment and instruction to support the student.

The REACH (Respect Every Awesome Child Here) Room

We have a team of Support Service professionals who work within our site whose expertise can be called upon as needed.

Individual 1:1 support with an SSO can be applied for and organised in consultation with our Learning Improvement Leader and Support Services. The amount of support hours allocated is dependent on the level of adjustments that teachers and SSO's need to make to the curriculum, environment and instruction, for your child to successfully access the curriculum and settle well into Yankalilla Area School.

We have a dedicated REACH (Respect Every Awesome Child Here) Room for Interoception which provides a calm break space away the busy classroom environment. Students work with the Learning Improvement leader to regulate or simply take a break. Students are supported to access their preferred calming activities in this space. The attached Learning Improvement Room and Library space provide opportunities for alternative working environments as well as the 'break out area' within the Middle Years building.

At YAS we offer a range of support and intervention programs to enhance learning:

  • Multi-lit – reading intervention

  • Social Skills Development Program

  • In-class SSO support

  • Reach Room – space for calming and self-regulation

  • One Plans – individual learning programs/plans

  • Learning Improvement Coordinator – support for families

  • Interest & strength-based alternative programs

If you would like to arrange a meeting to further discuss your child’s needs please contact the school.
